Mica Short appointed to EPISD's District of Innovation Committe
Congratulations to Mica Short, Vice President of Development for the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, for being appointed to the El Paso Independent School District’s (EPISD) District of Innovation Committee by Trustee Al Velarde. The committee is represented by district stakeholders and a variety of community leaders. The District of Innovation Plan is developed every five years and the committee will meet weekly over the next several weeks on the recommended components for the plan.
A District of Innovation is a concept passed by the 84th Texas Legislative Session in House Bill 1842 that gives traditional independent school districts the flexibilities to increase local control over District operations and to support innovation and local initiatives to improve educational outcomes for the benefit of EPISD students and the community. The Committee will work to draft a Local Innovative Plan for consideration by the District-wide Educational Improvement Council and the EPISD Board of Trustees.
Mica has three children in EPISD elementary schools, and she currently serves as Past-Chair of the Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) Board of Directors and the WSB’s Education Committee. She is humbled to serve on this committee, which will consider innovative approaches to enhance the quality educational programs offered by EPISD.
