Playa Drain Trail: Ready for Use!
The Paso del Norte Community Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of the Playa Drain Trail. The 3.4-mile neighborhood trail was developed with funding support from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, working in collaboration with the City of El Paso and El Paso Water.
The Playa Drain Trail, which takes its name from the historic irrigation system that runs alongside it, is the first segment of the larger 60-mile planned Paso del Norte Trail that will extend across El Paso County.
The completed Playa Drain Trail segment enhances health by providing local residents a great way to enjoy daily exercise and get around the neighborhood. The trail features new amenities such as seating, shade structures, interpretive signage, water fountains, sunscreen stations, bicycle repair stations, exercise stations, landscaping, public art and more.
The trail will be officially opened with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, November 8 at 2:00 pm the Ascarate Park trailhead. There will be a Grand Opening at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10 at the Riverside Park trailhead located at the corner of Alameda St. and Vocational Dr. We’ll have music, snacks, giveaways, a scavenger hunt and games. The public is welcome to attend both events.
Planning for the final 1.93 miles of the 8.3 mile Playa Drain Trail from Riverside High School to Ysleta High School will begin soon with support from foundations, corporations and the public. Naming opportunities are available. To donate or for more information, please call us at (915) 218-2644 or click here.
