Russell Glen Tanner was born in El Paso, Texas on January 6, 1964.  He passed away suddenly from a coronary event on September 2, 2023. He was 59 years old. He lived his life generating friends and happiness wherever he went. His mantra "life is good" held space in everything he touched and impacted the lives of countless people. He inspired others to be their personal best, and he never knew a stranger. He was filled with joy and optimism - not because everything was perfect, but because he chose to live a life to touch others, to help, and to be a light in the world.

He started each day with a grateful heart and remained true to his mission of impacting others in a positive manner until the morning of his sudden passing. He was known for his inspirational Facebook posts each morning. 55 minutes before he was called home, his post read "When you start each day with a grateful heart, light illuminates from within," followed by the words "life is good."

Russell was a selfless, positive, compassionate and devoted human being and inspired others to join him on his journey of contagious optimism. He made the world brighter for everyone with whom he came in contact and was loved by all.

A proud native of El Paso and Anthony, New Mexico, Russell graduated from Gadsden High School in 1982. He loved the El Paso/Juarez border the people, traditions, customs and culture. Russell was passionate about his friends and family, including his wife of 30 years, Renee "Baby Doll" Tanner and his cherished only son, Cody. He loved motorcycles, supercross, the outdoors, his dogs Lexi and Hallie, all other animals, and Taco night with friends at the Riviera in El Paso. He was particularly proud of his 31 years of sobriety and helped many people on their road to the miracle of recovery.

To commemorate his spirit of pure love and giving, the Russell Tanner "Life is Good" Fund is established to make a difference by providing help and hope to a wide myriad of people in need - no strings attached. Just positivity and optimism, and a helping hand in this journey called life. His son, Cody will pave the way and work with the Paso del Norte Community Foundation to ensure the donations will bless others the way his dad did each day.
