A Once-in-a-Generation Opportunity for El Paso
Following a series of community meetings earlier this year, planners have developed guiding principles and preliminary programming concepts for the Downtown Deck Plaza. These concepts are the next step in an on-going study of the feasibility of creating El Paso’s next great public space over Interstate 10 between Campbell Street and Prospect Street. The Deck Plaza would reconnect neighborhoods, provide opportunities for inclusive economic development, and create a regional amenity for residents and visitors to enjoy.
In support of the City of El Paso, the Downtown Deck Plaza Foundation hosted a second series of community meetings this month at locations across the city at which El Pasoans were invited to provide their feedback on the work planners have done so far.
If you didn’t get the chance to attend, you can visit DowntownDeckPlaza.org and click on the feedback tab to learn more about the concepts and provide your comments.
The feasibility study, funded by a $900,000 Federal RAISE Grant to the City of El Paso, and $500,000 in matching funds from the Downtown Deck Plaza Foundation, includes planning and visioning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, structural assessments, and market and economic feasibility assessments of constructing a deck plaza.
