Doug and Denise Jones, the founders of the Nathan Jones Memorial Scholarship, traveled to El Paso from Michigan over the weekend of July 13^th to present the inaugural Nathan Jones Memorial Scholarship to Jackson Powers, a graduate student in the Turf Grass Management Program at New Mexico State University. 

The family toured the Turf Grass Management Program at NMSU’s Fabian Garcia Research Center and also received a tour of the NMSU campus.  The family presented the scholarship check in the amount of $2500 to Jackson Powers at the El Paso Chihuahuas game on Saturday, July 13^th.  Nathan was the head groundskeeper for the El Paso Chihuahuas when he died as a result of an accident on I-10 after pulling over to help someone in need. 

The Jones Family decided to establish his memorial scholarship for students in the El Paso region studying turf grass management because El Paso was so welcoming to their son and he grew to love the community and the people within it.  The El Paso Chihuahuas Foundation generously matched the Jones’ founding contribution.
